Last minute updates
Wow, time flies! A few days from now, many of you will be pouring into Atlantic City, checking into the Showboat, and gearing up for the weekend’s activities. We figured now was a good time for an update, filling you in on everything which has been keeping us busy these past few weeks.
There have been a couple of changes to the schedule of events. We were able to secure the Club Harlem Ballroom for Thursday night’s bonus party, so there is even less need for you to ever trek down the Boardwalk in your high heels! The Rocky Horror Puppet Show will go on at 9:00 p.m. A cash bar will be available before and during the show.
We have been lucky enough to secure some new and rare video footage, which we will screen during Saturday. We have been given an advanced screener copy of The Rocky Horror Tribute Show at The Royal Court Theatre by Kultur films. This never before seen film will air for the first time at our convention. The release date for the DVD has been moved up to 10-14-2008, just in time for Halloween! We’ll also be screening a second rare treat - special footage from behind the scenes on the set of the original movie. See on set interviews with Director Jim Sharman, writter and Riff Raff Richard O’Brien, and of course Frank-n-Furter himself, Tim Curry, in all their 1975 glory.
There also have been some exciting developments in the capstone activity of the convention…the House of Blues screening of Rocky Horror! One thing which makes this convention different from many others is the screening of Rocky Horror is open to the public, and not just put on for convention attendees. And it looks like the show will be HUGE! As of last week, over 500 tickets already have been sold, and that doesn’t include convention-goers. The audience won’t be disappointed. We have been working on exciting aspects of the preshow, including Patricia Quinn and Little Nell’s involvment.
While we’re on the topic of special guests…Patricia Quinn has asked Robin Lipner, the original 8th Street Magenta, to join her at the convention for a little Q&A. Robin will be bringing with her photos and memories from the days when Rocky Horror first got started. Speaking also of 8th Street, no convention would be complete without the original master of ceremonies, Sal Piro - President of the Rocky Horror Fan Club. Sal has decades of stories to share. He will also be bringing plenty of stuff from “Sal’s closet” with him as well. Some things to keep in mind when considering how to spend the money you win at the blackjack tables: we will have three styles of t-shirts available in men and women’s styles, with each shirt costing between $20-$25, depending on the style. The playing cards you have seen will be $15 a deck. Both the t-shirts and playing cards are expected to sell out, so buy early!
